Paris' Bubbly Secret
Free Sparkling Water on Tap!

Paris isn’t just the city of lights—it’s also the city of free sparkling water! Scattered across the city, you’ll find special "fontaines pétillantes" that dispense carbonated water, absolutely free.
The first of these fizzy fountains bubbled up in 2010 at the Jardin de Reuilly, thanks to Eau de Paris, the city’s water company. It was such a hit that Paris expanded the program, and now there are at least 15 sparkling water fountains sprinkled throughout the city.
How Do They Work?
These aren’t just ordinary drinking fountains. They chill the tap water to a crisp 6°C (43°F) before adding a burst of CO₂—giving you the perfect, refreshing sip of sparkling water on demand.
Where to Find Them?
Thirsty for some Parisian effervescence? You can track down these fountains using online maps from sites like 203Challenges or simply wander the city and stumble upon one like a true Parisian explorer.
Why Paris Does It Best
Not only is this a delicious perk, but it’s also an eco-friendly one. By offering free sparkling water, Paris encourages people to refill reusable bottles, cutting down on plastic waste while keeping things refreshingly chic.
For a comprehensive map of all drinking water fountains in Paris, including those offering sparkling water, you can visit the Eau de Paris website. Additionally, the 203Challenges website provides a useful map highlighting these fountains.
