Many People in Bhutan Celebrate Their Birthday On the Same Day

2.jpg

in Bhutan, many people traditionally celebrate their birthday on New Year's Day, which coincides with the Buddhist lunar new year, called Losar.

This practice is particularly common in rural areas and stems from a time when exact birthdates weren’t always recorded, especially in older generations. Instead of individual birthday celebrations, everyone would observe their birthday together on Losar, marking the start of a new year with a fresh beginning for all.

While some people in Bhutan now celebrate their birthdays on the actual date due to modern record-keeping, the tradition of marking birthdays collectively on New Year’s still persists in certain parts of the country.
