Do Carrots Really Help Night Vision?

A Wartime Myth With A Grain of Truth...

Ever hear that carrots are good for your eyesight? You can thank World War II for that! During the war, the British Royal Air Force didn’t want to reveal their secret radar technology, which helped pilots spot enemy planes at night. So they spread a sneaky rumor that their pilots’ incredible night vision came from eating lots of carrots.

The public bought into it, and posters encouraged everyone to munch on carrots to improve their eyesight during blackouts. While it’s true that carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A (important for vision), don’t expect to see in the dark just by eating a few extra carrots!
