Domino's Pizza: 1/2 Stake Ownership Traded for a Song?

No, Not a Song, A Volkwagen Beetle!

In 1960, brothers James and Tom Monaghan co-founded what would become Domino’s Pizza, but James didn’t stick around for the pizza empire. He traded his half of the business to Tom in exchange for... wait for it... a used Volkswagen Beetle!

While Tom went on to turn Domino’s into one of the biggest pizza chains in the world, James drove away with his Beetle, missing out on billions. The current market value of Domino's Pizza as of October 2024 is $14.3 billion. That’s one slice of history with a side of "what if?"
