How a Crocodile Became a Fashion Icon

The famous crocodile logo of Lacoste comes from a bet. In the 1920s, tennis star René Lacoste was promised a crocodile-skin suitcase if he won a match.
A journalist overheard and called him “the crocodile” for his tenacious style. Lacoste embraced the nickname and had the reptile embroidered on his blazer, long before logos on clothing were common. It later became the brand’s official symbol.
