Paul Revere Was a Dentist and Never Shouted That Famous Warning

Paul Revere was more than a midnight rider. He was a skilled silversmith, a part-time dentist who crafted false teeth, and one of the first Americans to use dental records for identification. He and his wife, Sarah Orne Revere, had sixteen children, though several did not survive to adulthood. He never shouted “The British are coming,” because most colonists still considered themselves British at the time.
Revere was captured partway through his ride, but his network of other riders carried the warning onward. Beyond that famous night, he also ran a successful foundry that produced cannon and church bells, and he helped pioneer early American copper sheathing for naval ships, including the USS Constitution.
