The Average Person Speaks

About 16,000 Words Per Day

The number of words spoken by an average person per day can vary widely depending on factors such as age, personality, occupation, and cultural background.

However, various studies have attempted to estimate this figure. According to research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, the average person speaks around 16,000 words per day.  However, this number can range from as few as 5000 words per day to as many as 25,000 words per day, depending on individual differences and circumstances.

Factors such as extroversion, social interaction, and occupation can influence the number of words a person speaks on a daily basis.  For example, someone in a highly social job like teaching or sales may speak more words per day compared to someone in a more solitary occupation.
