The Real Story Behind Area 51

Photograph of SR-71 Blackbird Aircraft

Hidden in the Nevada desert, Area 51 began as a top-secret test site for experimental aircraft like the U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird.

Its classified flights at unheard-of altitudes led to a surge of UFO sightings in the 1950s and 60s, when commercial planes flew much lower.

The U.S. government didn’t publicly acknowledge Area 51 until 2013, confirming it as a base for advanced aviation research.

Today, Area 51 remains off-limits, but its real legacy isn’t about aliens; it’s about how secrecy can turn science into legend.
