What Came Before the Wheel? Music

When you think of early human inventions, the wheel probably tops the list. But music beat it there by a long shot. Archaeologists have uncovered bone flutes in Europe dating back over 40,000 years, carved from bird bones and mammoth ivory. By comparison, the oldest known wheels appeared only about 5,200 years ago. In other words, long before we figured out how to roll, we were already making music.
