Why New Zealand is Considered Socially Progressive

New Zealand is known for relatively progressive social laws.
Same-sex marriage was made legal in 2013. Prostitution, including soliciting and licensed brothel keeping, was decriminalized under the Prostitution Reform Act of 2003. The minimum age for a learner's driving licence is 16, the legal drinking age is 18, and the age of consent for consensual sex is 16.
