Nature's Fiery Cauldron
The boiling river of the Amazon!

Hidden in Peru’s rainforest, the Boiling River—Shanay-Timpishka—reaches temperatures up to 93°C (200°F), hot enough to cook anything that falls in. Despite its name, which means “boiled with the heat of the sun,” the real source isn’t solar—it’s geothermal energy from deep fault lines beneath the Earth’s surface.
Stretching about 4 miles, the river bubbles with steam in the middle of the lush Amazon, inspiring both local legends and scientific curiosity.
Explorer Andrés Ruzo studied the river and found it’s not volcanic, but heated by underground hot springs, making it one of the planet’s rare geothermal wonders.
