This Tiny Country is One of the World's Biggest Agricultural Exporters

The Netherlands is smaller than many U.S. states, yet it became one of the world’s largest agricultural exporters by value.
Despite its limited land, the country produces enormous amounts of food through highly efficient farming, advanced greenhouse systems, and sophisticated logistics networks. Dutch farms export massive quantities of vegetables, flowers, dairy products, and seeds to countries around the world.
Much of this success comes from technology. Some Dutch greenhouses use climate controls, precision irrigation, robotics, and carefully optimized lighting to grow crops with remarkably little water and land.
The country also benefits from the Port of Rotterdam, one of the largest ports in Europe, which helps move agricultural products quickly across global markets.
In 2025, Dutch agricultural exports reached roughly €137.5 billion (about US$150 billion), making the Netherlands the world’s second-largest agricultural exporter by value after the United States. U.S. agricultural exports were valued at roughly US$191 billion in 2024.
