Chocolate Chip Cookies
The Sweetest Mistake in Baking History

In the 1930s, Ruth Wakefield of the Toll House Inn ran out of baker’s chocolate while making cookies. She improvised by chopping up a Nestlé semi-sweet bar, expecting it to melt into the dough.
Instead, the chunks held their shape, creating gooey pockets of chocolate—and the chocolate chip cookie was born.
The recipe was a hit, and Nestlé made a sweet deal: they printed her recipe on their packaging in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate. They even invented chocolate chips to make baking easier.
