Hawaiian Pizza

Born in Canada

Pineapple on pizza didn’t come from Hawaii—it came from Ontario. In 1962, Greek-Canadian restaurateur Sam Panopoulos tossed canned pineapple and ham on a pizza just to try something new.

Customers loved the sweet-and-salty combo, and the “Hawaiian” name stuck thanks to the brand on the pineapple can. Decades later, it’s still sparking fierce (but fun) pizza debates.
