Brains Signals Travel over 250 MPH

Meet Your Brain’s Messengers
Neurons are tiny, powerful cells that keep you thinking, feeling, and moving. They’re the nervous system’s messengers, sending signals at speeds over 250 mph.
How It Works
Each neuron has a long tail called an axon. When activated, it sends an electrical pulse—an action potential—down the axon. The signal reaches a tiny gap called a synapse, where chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) jump to the next neuron, passing the message along.
Why So Fast?
Axons are wrapped in a fatty layer called myelin, which speeds up signal transmission—just like insulation on a wire. More myelin means faster thinking and quicker reactions.
