Why Don't Deer Notice Tigers? The Secret of Orange Camoflage

Tiger orange and black stripes that appear camouflaged to prey animals.

To humans, a tiger’s orange coat looks like a flashing warning sign. To deer, boar, and other prey, it blends right in. That’s because most of these animals are dichromatic — they see mainly blues and greens. What we perceive as bright orange, they see as a muted greenish-brown, the perfect forest disguise.

Add black stripes that break up the body’s outline, and a tiger can vanish into grass and shadows. Combined with slow, silent stalking, this makes one of the most feared hunters in the world almost invisible to its prey.
