Too Fast For Film

Bruce Lee's Speed Left Camera's Struggling

Image of Martial Artists Moving Quickly

Bruce Lee’s speed was so incredible that early fight scenes blurred on camera, making his moves nearly invisible. Directors had to ask him to slow down, ensuring each strike could be seen.

Adjusting wasn’t easy—Lee’s natural speed was part of his style. To make it work, he paced his movements for the camera, creating the illusion of superhuman speed. In some scenes, filmmakers even slowed playback to showcase his technique.

Lee wasn’t just ahead of his time in martial arts—Hollywood had to keep up with him.
